This article provides a standardized script and filming guide to help teams create consistent field training videos that clearly explain what a topic is, why it matters, and how to perform it correctly.

Use this template for every field video to keep content consistent.


Video Title

Scope of Work (SOW)

The purpose of this video is to explain:

  • What [topic] is

  • Why it matters

  • How to do it correctly

  • Common mistakes to avoid


Script

INTRO (15–20 seconds)
“Hi, I’m [Name]. I’m at [Location].
In this video, I’m going to walk you through [topic], why it’s important, and how to do it correctly in the field.”


WHAT (30–45 seconds)
“Here’s what [topic] is and what you’re looking at.”

Explain clearly and simply.


WHY (30–45 seconds)
“This matters because…”
Explain safety, quality, performance, or compliance impact.


HOW TO (1 minute)
“Here’s how to do it correctly.”

Explain while physically showing:

  • The correct setup

  • The correct condition

  • The correct process


HOW NOT TO (30–45 seconds)
“Here’s an example of what not to do.”

Explain:

  • What’s wrong

  • Why it causes issues


CLOSE (10–15 seconds)
“That’s how to properly handle [topic] in the field.”


SHOW Section (What to Film)

  • Wide shot of the area (optional)

  • Close-ups of the specific items or details

  • Good example

  • Not-so-good example

  • Any labels, markings, or conditions being discussed

You may:

  • Film hands and tools only

  • Point from behind the camera

  • Use photos instead of video when helpful


Camera Operator Guidance 

For videos with two people present:

  • Camera operator films in landscape mode

  • Keep camera at 1x

  • Tap screen to confirm focus

  • Move closer instead of zooming

  • Shift between speaker and subject as needed

  • Capture close-ups when details matter

This ensures the final learning content is clear, focused, and effective.
