Using Your Phone Camera App to Capture a Video and Upload It to On3 Content Connect

This article walks through recording a field video, uploading it into Content Connect, generating a module, reviewing transcripts, and approving learning content created by On3.

This guide explains how to record a short training video using your phone (or any camera), upload it into On3 Content Connect on a desktop, and complete the most important checks to ensure accurate learning content is generated.

You do not need technical experience to follow these steps.

Step 1: Record the Video in the Field

When recording in the field, focus on clarity over perfection.

Recording Guidelines

  • Hold your phone sideways (landscape mode)

  • Use an external microphone if possible (wireless preferred)

    • Phone microphones alone are typically not ideal

  • Speak clearly and keep explanations simple

  • Use a small number of clear talking points

  • Show exactly what you are explaining

Photos (Recommended)

  • Capture clear photos of specific parts, items, or areas you reference

  • These images can be:

    • Edited into the video, or

    • Added later to the module’s Primers to support visual learning

Step 2: Get the Files onto Your Computer

Before uploading:

  • Transfer only the clean, usable video clips and photos from your phone

  • Save them into a clearly named folder on your computer

  • Make sure you know exactly where the files are located

This makes uploading into Content Connect faster and easier.

Step 3: Upload the Video to On3 Content Connect

  1. Open a browser and go to app.on3.ai

  2. From the Home Page, click Create Course

  3. When prompted:

    • Select your Workspace (company or division)

    • Choose Module

      • This is almost always the correct option

  4. If asked to select a Program and you are unsure:

    • Continue without selecting one

  5. Upload one video only

    • Additional videos can be added after the module is generated

  6. Enter a Module Title or use the file name

  7. Click Confirm

  8. Click Generate Module

Step 4: Find Your Module Inside Content Connect

  1. From the left navigation bar, click Modules

  2. Open the module you just created

Step 5: If You Recorded Multiple Video Clips

If you recorded multiple videos and want them combined into one module:

  1. Inside the module, click Add Content

    • Upload the additional video clips

  2. Go to Key Points

    • Add each video clip

    • Drag and drop clips into the correct order you want the video to be combined

  3. Go to Module Details

    • Remove the original single video

    • Click Join Videos

    • Select all videos you want combined

Step 6: Check the Transcript (Most Important Step)

This is the most critical step in the entire process.

  1. Expand the Contents section

  2. Locate your joined video

  3. Find the Transcript directly below the video

    • The transcript includes all combined audio from the joined videos

  4. Read the transcript carefully from start to finish

Everything On3 generates—learning content, coaching, and questions—is based on this transcript.

What to Do

  • Fix any mistakes

  • Correct wording

  • Ensure it says exactly what you meant

If You Make Changes To The Transcript (Extremely Important)

  • Open the AI Assistant (top navigation bar)

  • Select Regenerate Module

This rebuilds the learning content using all joined videos.

Regenerating the module is a critical step.

Step 7: Review the Learning Content (Quick Check)

  1. Open Primers

  2. Click through each primer

  3. Use Preview (top navigation bar) to see the learner view

Confirm

  • The content matches what you taught

  • Nothing important is missing

  • Images support learning

  • Content fits properly in the preview screen

If something is missing or unclear:

  • Edit it directly, or

  • Use the AI Assistant to improve or expand the content

Step 8: Final Approval

  • If you have approval permissions:

    • Click Approve Module (top navigation bar)

  • If not:

    • Notify your supervisor that the module is ready

Once approved, the module moves to Beta Review in the On3 Learn app before being released to learners.

Key Takeaways for Field Users

  • Record video in landscape

  • Ensure clear video and audio

  • Take close-up photos to support learning

  • Upload one video first, add others later if needed

  • Always review and correct the transcript

  • Regenerate the module after any major change
